Mowing:
Most lawns need
to be mowed every four to five days, the rule to follow is not to
let your lawn grow longer than one-third of cutting height.
Always be sure that your mower blades are sharp, dull blade
tear, chew or rip grass. Torn grass often dies and is more
susceptible to disease and drought stress.
A
layer of thatch less than one-half inch is good for the lawn, it
helps keep in moisture during dry hot periods. It acts as
a cushion to minimize compaction and wear.
Fertilizing:
There are three major essential nutrients for proper plant growth:
Nitrogen:
- Promotes
vigorous blade, leaf, and stem growth.
- Encourages
dark green color.
- Assists
in chlorophyll production.
- Improves
overall plant health, quality, and density.
- Aids
in tolerance to heat, cold, and drought stress.
Phosphorus:
- Promotes
early plant development.
- Hastens
plant maturity.
- Promotes
bloom and root development.
Potassium:
- Improves
tolerance to drought, disease, and heat.
- Increases
winter hardiness.
- Aids
in water uptake.
- Enhances
overall health and vigor.
